Where I Stand...And Why You Should Vote for Me.

VOTE
AMANDA SERFOZO
OSA Freshman Class President

Thanks for visiting! I need your help...as a candidate for OSA Class President,
I'll need your vote to ensure that we keep things in working order, open lines of communication between OU's adminstration and student body, and plan awesome events.

I'm looking forward to representing OU's Class of 2012!

What I've done:
-Currently double majoring in Politics/Communication & Rhetoric Studies
-I currently serve as your Asst. News Editor of The Stormy Petrel -- reporting the news on campus, asking the controversial questions, demanding accountability
-Anyone that knows me will tell you I'm a political junkie... I know how government institutions are supposed to work, and can identify when they aren't. I am constantly trying to learn more
about current events and things that affect our political system.
-Former intern with major publishing corporation
-Volunteered at local library, founded "Children's Video Drive" and collected over 500 educational videos for area elementary school children
-Graduated with honors, various AP classes, and numerous recommendations
-Served as News Editor of high school newspaper, Vice President of Latin Club, President/Founder of Students for Obama, First Affirmative member of Debate Team

What I believe...
-I promise to effectively and quickly communicate with all Oglethorpe University students within the Freshman class of 2012.
-I will serve as a positive mediator and representative of student interests when approaching our administration.
-I will take this position seriously -- as any elected representative would agree, this is a job and it's my duty to speak on behalf of our class
-I will take into account what we all want as a whole, and proceed to resolve conflicts, make adjustments, and reach agreements.

-I believe in ... truly listening to student concerns when it comes to pertinent issues
-I believe in ... action and answers that will best serve our class
-I believe in ... serious accountability and honest representation
-I believe in ... every student's right to voice their opinion, make free choices, and pursue goals without restrictions

If elected, I will:
-Serve as your "go-to" person when it comes to the most important issues. Since you've elected me as YOUR representative, I will always be available or make time to listen to your comments or concerns.
-Make sure that your utilities are always working. When you're paying for college, you deserve hot water, working elevators, enough parking spaces, lights, and basic services. I will constantly be in communication with our class
to make sure that everything is in good condition, and if not, oversee that it is taken care of quickly.
-Work closely with the other branches of OSA, like Programming Board, and upperclassmen Presidents. I'll organize, sponsor, and get permission for events that benefit the Class of 2012, like:

1.) A possible Freshman & Upperclassman athlete recognition picnic for helping with Move-In Day:

*Move-In Day is one of the roughest, hottest, most intense days of heavy-lifting. Because Freshman/Upperclassmen athletes gave up their time and helped their peers with
moving EVERYTHING into our dorms, we should recognize them for this! As your Class President, I would listen to what the athletes want, and work hard to provide them with it.
We could have local restaurants donate to us in return for an ad in the Carillon or Stormy Petrel, and have a few volunteers from our class that would help with setup. The picnic
could be held on the quad, with student musicians for entertainment, etc.
The Freshman class thanks you!

2.)
An all-night dance party that would raise money for a specific, Atlanta-based, community cause:

*Who doesn't love 24 hour dance-offs? The Freshman Class is made up of some of the most talented and energized students that are focused on giving back. A dance-off would
allow us to take a break from hitting the books AND have fun while raising money for a great cause. I'll listen to what kind of music students want and what charity we could donate to.
As a group effort, we could have our own in-house, student DJ's who might be interested in playing music, performing live, people to bring food and refreshments, etc. I would work with Campus Safety
to make sure the student center is safe and on "lockdown" all night. Also, we could have people make art/decorations, do something with lighting, etc.

3.)
A "Spring Cleaning" type yard sale held out on the quad:

*Always wanted your roommate's Pink Floyd poster? Want to get rid of that bulky container? Everyone has junk that they accumulate at the end of the year. Why not get rid of it?
We could have a massive yard sale where everyone does spring cleaning, brings their unwanted stuff to the quad, and sells it. Everyone gets to keep the money that they designate to their junk. We could have lemonade stands, cotton candy sales, and "fair"-type activities. By holding an event like this, you could sell stuff that you no longer use or buy things to decorate your dorm for next year!
