Hey there, voter!
So, I know campaigning is rough and tumble, but here's the deal: as I'm talking to more and more people about the 08-09 school year and beyond, I'm learning more about what YOU want. My election as Class President isn't for me -- it's for all of us.
In talking with some OU '12 voters, I've learned a few things; you love responsible, down to earth, hardworking people. You also love a good time, a good party, and a good network of friends. Your vote for me would ensure all of these things. Voting isn't something that should be done passively, so that's why I'm asking you, again, to VOTE for me!
Some things I want you to know:
- Your Class President should constantly be taking the temperature of the campus to see, collectively, our likes and dislikes. That's why I'm here to listen to your requests, your wishes, your grievances, your ideas...anything.
-I have experience in organization, strict deadlines, professionalism, and volunteerism. I've done everything from on-the-spot research at a major magazine, to creating student political groups from the ground up. I know how things should work. I've organized community volunteer projects that benefited area children in education, through Public Relations work with area political figures, news corporations, and nonprofit groups.
-I've written on my school's newspaper for as long as I can remember. I'm currently your Assistant News Editor of the Stormy Petrel, and I love the challenges I'm faced with. I've learned, through high school and now college, how to manage my time. I schedule interviews between classes, write stories late at night, and meet my deadlines every time. Overall, I think this experience is vital to sustaining honesty and demanding the truth from officials and decision-makers. My commitment to journalism is one that I am passionate about -- we all deserve the real story, and we should all be informed of what's happening around us. My position as Class President would constantly reflect this.
-I'm confident in my decision-making. While I will NOT make an on-the-spot, fleeting decision, I WILL carefully and thoroughly review all the variables and routes at hand. I'm a huge fan of lists, specifically pro's and con's. Any great leader will tell you that's the only way to come to a well thought out conclusion, and I guarantee it as your Class President.
-I believe in truth, honesty, and your voice as the Class of 2012. But I also believe in a FUN and warm environment. We can't be strong if we're divided, therefore we need to work together to make events that we'll all want to attend. I'll do as much as possible to make sure we have an awesome year, but I'm also going to leave lots of it up to you. I might ask you to DJ at an event, make bright posters, get the word out, help plan the event, make snacks -- you name it. :-)
So, thanks for listening, and keep an eye out for more updates.
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!
